Four locks reopened early this week

THERE has been a number of locks reopened  early this week after their closures.

Work has been completed and the following locks now open, Keith Gudgin reports.

Brick Kiln Lock 33 on the Staffs & Worcs has reopened with its damaged lock beam being repaired and the navigation fully open after its former limited passage.

Trent & Mersey Canal has reopened with the repair to the locks at Etruria Junction, with the emergency work on the bottom gates being completed  and the top lock having all paddle bolts and fixings replaced with new parts.

Salterhebble Bottom Guillotine Lock (pictured) on the Calder & Hebble Navigation has been repaired and reopened to navigation. What was originally thought to be an electrical problem was discovered to be mechanical, with a shaft key having slipped and jammed the motor from operating.

Rufford Branch on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal has reopened after repairs to the failed paddles that caused the closure of Lock 1, with water levels being replenished overnight.
