Marina for Northampton

AFTER many years of consultation work has at last started on a marina on the Nene at or Northampton.

This is on the old lake in the town's Becket's Park, and is part of a wider plan to improve the area, Roger Fox reveals.

It is the Environment Agency that is undertaking the creation of an 80-berth marina, which of course will include wildlife habitats.

The plan had been held up owing to a number of trees in the way of construction, but these, it was decided, are 'either diseased or pose a risk due to their location or growth', and so will be removed.

It is expected that there will be overnight moorings available in the new marina, which should prove safer than mooring by the development close to the junction with the canal.
