Daventry Canal rumbles on

Published: Monday, 22 February 2010

REGULAR readers should well remember the plan to build a marina in Daventry, though there is no canal.

It is of course all to do with development, as such surrounding a canal basin is much more attractive to prospective buyers, but a great deal of money is needed to create a canal to link with the Grand Union.

The latest in the long running saga is the decision at a meeting to hold a poll amongst the residents, which should determine the demand for the canal and marina in the town.

A spokesman stated a parish poll must be held on an issue that concerns local people if 10 residents ask for one, remarking that of the 158 people at the meeting, all but five voted to hold a poll.

However, the result will not be binding, but the organisers of the meeting believe a poll would give the council an indication of how local people felt.
