Could be a couple of months before navigation open

THE latest information from Canal & River Trust is that the Worcester & Birmingham Canal could be closed for a couple of months.
Its exact phrase being 'Our team are working hard to restore navigation as soon as possible, however it could be a couple of months before we can open the navigation & towpath again', Keith Gudgin reports.
Landslide
The problem being a landslide, as we reported, caused by Storm Babet meant trees and mud were swept into the canal at Shortwood Tunnel West Portal.
The trust had no alternative but to close the waterway together with the towpath that had been swept away in the debris.
It is at the present reviewing the work that has to be undertaken to make the canal navigable again at this section.
