Continuing to investigate on the Calder & Hebble

CANAL & River Trust is continuing to investigate the problem at Ganny Lock on the Calder & Hebble Navigation.

Engineers and work teams will possibly need the assistance of divers, if possible early next week to start work rectifying the problem, Keith Gudgin reports.

There is a structural issue with the top gates and the lock is unsafe to operate at this time.

Engineers on site

Engineers were on site on Thursday, to inspect the gates and identify the issue then decide upon appropriate actions to make sure the gates are safe and the lock operable again.

Rochdale Canal

Engineers have now investigated the suspected blown cill at Lock 77 on the Rochdale Canal and discovered the cill has become detached preventing the lock from being operated.

Contractors are expected to organise the necessary dams and scaffolding so that work can commence.

ShirleyDrawbridgThe navigation is of course closed.

North Stratford Canal

The parts required for the repair of Shirley Drawbridge have been obtained.

These have been fixed with the navigation now open.

There had been a delay with the arrival of the parts, hence the delay in getting the drawbridge repaired.

Ure Navigation

Milby Lock (3) on the Ure Navigation had a stalk broken.

This has now been repaired and the navigation reopened with the water levels having returned to normal levels.
