WITH so many instances of paddles left open it would seem time for Canal & River Trust to renew its anti-vandal lock policy.

That is Keith Gudgins' suggestion upon reporting that the Leeds & Liverpool Canal has suffered another stoppage owing to paddles being left open. this time at Newlay Office Lock, closing the navigation from Lock 2 to Lock 13.

Water wasted

We all know of the terrible leakage of so many lock gates these days, so should paddles be left open—either by boaters or vandals—then water is going to be wasted over the overflows.

Nowadays, time and time again are reports of paddles left up, so a review, and application. of a new anti-vandal policy is desperately needed and put into action.
