Two Kennet & Avon swing bridges damaged

TWO Kennet & Avon Canal swing bridges were damaged yesterday, Tuesday.

Both, Canal & River Trust tell, were damaged by vehicle strikes, Keith Gudgin reports.

Sheffield Swingbridge (19) at Theale has sustained significant damage following a road traffic accident and the trust is not confident at the moment that the bridge can be operated safely.

Contractors have been asked to carry out an inspection, advise and instigate repairs.

Padworth Swing Bridge

Padworth Swing Bridge (27) (pictured) has also suffered a vehicle strike yesterday, but the trust's engineers are attending this morning.

In this case the bridge is expected to be repaired by midday today and open for navigation.

Sheffield Swing Bridge has now been repaired and back in operation.
