IT WAS on the 29th April that notice of the possibility of a 'blown' cill on Lock 72 was announced.

It was eventually confirmed that the concrete 'apron' holding the cill on the gates of the lock at Newton Heath had broken and so the cill had to be repaired, Keith Gudgin reported.

The navigation was closed whilst what is now named the North West Reactive Response Team, removed the damaged concrete slab which has blown at the base of the tailgate, along with removing two tonnes of debris, the team then refitting the timber cills to prepare for the concrete base.

The fabric dams and scaffolding were removed on Monday and Tuesday of this week and navigation between Lock 65 and Lock 81 resumed at 11am today, Wednesday 1st June.

It once again taking just over a month to complete.
