THE excessive wear to the bottom gate heel post of a Stoke Bruerne lock gate means it has to be removed.

stoke bruerne400A gate on the top lock of the Stoke Bruerne Flight (14), on the Grand Union gave way on Friday 16th October and left passage under restriction, Keith Gudgin reports.

Wear so bad

It has been decided that the wear is so bad that the gate will have to be removed, taken away for repair then reinstalled.

This means the navigation will be completely closed on Wednesday 3rd November when the gate is scheduled for removal, but reopened a week later on the 10th of November, providing of course there are no unforeseen problems.
