'A few challenges' at Aire & Calder breach

Published: Wednesday, 31 March 2021

THERE have been 'a few challenges' Canal & River Trust state at the repair to the breach on the Aire & Calder Navigation.

Now over three months

It is now over three months since the breach occurred yet the trust seem to be in no definite position regarding its repair, as Keith Gudgin reports.

It states 'We have experienced a few challenges with the coffer dams at the breach site during the weekend'.

This has meant that again water levels between Ferrybridge and Pollington have had to be lowered, and fluctuations in water levels may be experienced over the next few days with skippers of all craft advised to check their mooring lines to ensure their vessel is securely moored allowing for water fluctuation.

Long term repair

There is no intimation what the 'challenges' are, only that work continues at the breach site on the long term repair.

Yet engineers have not even carried out the first detailed inspection at the breach, which, hopefully; will be undertaken  after Easter.
