Broken bridge closes Rochdale

THE broken Punchbowl Bridge has closed the Rochdale Canal.

The bridge is situated between locks 40 and 41 just below the southern side of the summit, Keith Gudgin reports.

No intimation

There is no intimation of what has occurred to the bridge to cause the waterway to be closed.

Only the notice from Canal & River Trust that it could be possible to carry out an emergency repair to the bridge once engineers have completed their inspection.
