A GREEN campaigner is so disgusted with the plastic waste in Limehouse Basin she is seeking volunteers for a plastic pollution clean-up.

Lizzie Carr became well known for being the only person to paddle the length of England's waterways without support, but was disgusted with the amount of waste plastic, and at the moment is appealing for volunteers to help her clean-up Limehouse Basin where the Regent's Canal joins the Thames, Alan Tilbury reports.

Lizzie CarrLittered with plastic

The basin is the home of a Canal & River Trust marina, but is obviously littered with plastic rubbish as the  environmental activist told the Docklands and East London Advertiser:

“The huge response to the issue of plastic pollution has spurred me on to run more clean-ups this year.

“By getting involved, people are able to try a new activity, meet like-minded people, and get fit, but above all fight the global issue of plastic pollution choking our waterways.”

2,000 photographs of waste

Lizzie completed her 400 miles paddle during 2016 and took over 2,000 photographs of the plastic waste along the waterways. The clean-up at Limehouse will be on the week-end of 28th and 29th of July.
