Boaters warned about burglaries

THE police have warned boaters about continuing burglaries at Cheshunt on the Lee, but no arrests have been made.

It was in early February that a series of boats were broken into on the navigation, with it now being released that stolen items included a laptop, jewellery, handbags, passports and a bicycle after gaining access by breaking-off the padlocks securing the doors, Alan Tilbury reports.

Best quality locks

In asking anyone who has seen anything suspicious around the boats to come forward, warnings have been given to boaters to fit the best quality locks available as well as considering bars across vulnerable wooden doors, to make their boats safe from burglars.

Further advice was not to leave valuable items such as cycles on roofs, or if they are, to chain them securely to the boat.
