Charity canal walk back

SUCH was the damage to the towpath of the Calder & Hebble after the 2015 Boxing Day flood, that the Rotary Club Walk has since been cancelled.

But the walk from Wakefield to Sowerby Bridge is now back, and will take place on Sunday 2nd April, Alan Tilbury reports.

To go ahead

Bill Sutton, of Horbury and Ossett Phoenix Rotary Club explained:

"The Canals and River Board [Canal & River Trust] have performed miracles to repair the damage and thus enable this great fundraising event to go ahead again in 2017."

The walk along the Calder and Hebble canal will cover a distance of 20 miles from Horbury in the East to Sowerby Bridge in the West. But for those who are unable to manage such a distance there are optional routes, with a registration fee of £7 that will go to raising funds for four hospices in Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield.
