Duck killer caught

A MAN seems to have an obsession about ducks, as they have been found in a bin by the Thames in Richmond, with their necks having been broken.

Robert Moir (49) was so intent upon his killing that even in front of onlookers he lured a duck to the bank with bread, then grabbed it, wrung its neck and threw it into a nearby bin.

Recorded on CCTV

People witnessing his cruel act, immediately telephoned the police to stop him, but though he had gone by the time they arrived, it was all recorded on CCTV.

It was seen that twice he tried to lure the duck close enough to be grabbed, and managed it the second time, with the footage being shown at Wimbledon Magistrates Court.

The helpless bird was first thrown on the floor, but to make sure it was dead Muir picked it up and wrung its neck again before dumping the body in the bin.

He denied the offence, but was convicted by the magistrates, and will be sentenced later.
