More damaged bridges stop navigation

THIS seems to be the time of the year when vehicle drivers are unable to negotiate canal bridges properly, with two more damaged and the navigation closed.

Clayworth Greys Bridge (69) on the Chesterfield Canal was re-opened yesterday, Tuesday, after being damaged by a vehicle, but further inspection discovered that the parapet is unsafe and so the navigation is closed again, Keith Gudgin tells us.

A vehicle has now struck Chelburn Bridge (42) on the Rochdale Canal, with the parapet on this bridge now unstable, so the navigation is now closed as Canal & River Trust state that it is unsafe for boats to pass underneath.
