Email: Putting it in perpective

Published: Friday, 18 December 2015

I think the matter of all those visitors that CaRT claims to visit its waterways, as it will not tell us how it really arrived at its figure, it should be put in perspective.

It tells us that there are 360 millions that visit the waterway every year.  Well this means that on the census at present the entire population of the United Kingdom—every man, woman and child, including the infirm, those in hospital and those in prison too must all visit the CaRT waterways 5.7 times.

Well Christmas is upon us and the end of the year, and people will be visiting, so I suggest that you ask all your visitors how many times they visited the waterways this year.  I have a cabin cruiser, so use the waterways, but visiting the wife's family in Leicester on Tuesday to deliver the presents, I asked the five people there how many times they had visited the waterways, and all I received was a blank expression obviously thinking 'what is he about?'.  Yet as most of your readers will know there is the Grand Union Canal running right through the middle and way through many housing estates of Leicester.

Try it yourself.
