I can assure Terry Palmer that there are not twice as many visitors to the Manchester canals to make up for nearly none on the tidal part of the Trent.

If he cares to look at the video you included of that mad cyclist on the towpaths of the Rochdale and Bridgewater canals he will notice that there were only about a dozen on the three or four miles he covered!

I don't know where CaRT got its figures from, but they are patently untrue, for this time of the year there are very few visitors indeed to the canals, be it in the cities or in the country.  No on wants to trudge in the rain to see an empty expanse of water, especially in the cities where it is normally strewn with rubbish.
