Email: Short term licence

I was interested to learn that the Environment Agency was thwarted in its demand for registration of boats that were in a private marina, but which raises an important question.

My partner moors his boat on what was a private fishing pond now turned into a marina on the Trent & Mersey Canal, with access to the Canal & River Trust canal quite a distance away.

My question is that as we only take the boat out in summer onto the Canal & Trust canals do we actually need to licence it during the winter months?  Meaning can we just take out a short term, much cheaper licence, just for when we want to take the boat out?

My partner has asked the manager, but received conflicting advice.  Perhaps there is someone who has done this.
