Doesn't agree with Victor

Can't say I agree with Victor's experiences with overgrown ash on the Oxford Canal. Up here on the Midland stretch of the Shropshire Union, Cart have a regular policy of 'scalping' the towpath, writes John Hall.

This year their 'subcontract mowers' appeared about every 4/5 weeks 5-6 guys strimming, mowing and hedge trimming. Despite my pleas to Cart, (articles submitted earlier), to take into account of both flora and fauna they continued unrelenting.

Ropes a little crossed

As for Victor's preference for high speed trains, at huge expense, it seems as though he is getting his ropes a little crossed. Canal cruising is meant to be at a slow pace, steam trains also travelled at a more leisurely pace, and usually managed to arrive on time!

Most boats with vintage engines (built in the UK), travel at respectable speeds unlike those powered by Japanese imports, also, yes you can hear a vintage engine coming unlike being surprised by a modern import silenced to the ultimate! and what better sound is there than that of a Bolinder 'mis-beating' heard for a half an hour before it arrives?

Or am I getting all nostalgic?
