Massive fire closes canal

A massive fire has destroyed a warehouse in Gloucester Docks, over the week-end, temporary closing the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal.

The 19th century building at Bakers Quay is now considered unsafe after a large section of it collapsed, so it will most likely now be demolished.

Arson

The police believe it was arson, with two men in their late teens having been arrested on suspicion of arson and are in police custody.

It is expected the waterway will be open again later today.
