Boater attacked at Haywood

A COUPLE had a terrible experience at Haywood Lock on the Trent & Mersey Canal on Tuesday. Two thugs were speeding in an inflatable at an estimated speed of 15 to 20mph when a boater took a picture of them.

Glen Summers tells us that the two, aged in their late 20s, took great exception to her husband taking a picture, hit him repeatedly, grabbed the very expensive camera, smashing it on the metal and threw it into the canal.

Memory card retrieved

With contents insurance low on the pensioners' list of priorities there is little hope of the camera being replaced, but its remains were retrieved by the police who are now examining the memory cards in the labs, hoping to get evidence of the pair.

Glenis wants this to be a warning to other boaters who may see the inflatable travelling at high speed, not to get involved, but to inform the police. The pair were of average build, one with reddish hair, one dark haired. The police are looking for them and any sightings, and ask to please ring Stafford Police.

The previous day they had been causing mayhem at Rugeley, and they are possibly heading towards Manchester according to an overheard conversation.
