Email: Wrong decision on moorings

Published: Wednesday, 08 July 2015

I have today seen the proposed mooring trial on the mooring pontoons at Macclesfield mooring whereby CaRT would increase the mooring period to 72 hours.

I have to say that this is an awful idea conjured up by someone who is not very familiar with the mooring possibilities at Macclesfield.

The new pontoons are the only moorings which give easy access to the major supermarkets. They are already difficult to access unless you are lucky and increasing the limit will make town access even more difficult.

I would propose a very stringent four hours mooring limit at this point to give more boaters an opportunity to access the shops.

Macclesfield towpath is diabolical throughout the town—collapsing in many places, rocks below the water, shallow sides and no mooring rings.

At worst CaRT should retain the 24 hours restriction, but consider reducing it drastically to facilitate shopping for supplies.
