Contractor will pay for bodged repair

THE leak at Dutton on the Trent & Mersey Canal was a bodged repair with Canal & River Trust (CaRT) Council members being told that contractor Kier accepts responsibility for the incident, writes Allan Richards.

This will come as no surprise to local residents who maintain that the canal has been leaking ever since a £2.5 million breach was repaired shortly after the Trust was formed (Dutton has leaked since being repaired).

However, there appears to be no explanation as to what went wrong, no indication as to cost of the second repair and no apology.

CaRT has published papers relating to a Board meeting  which confirm that its contractor, Kier, will bear the cost of repair.
