THE Nottingham Canal is closed from Castle Lock to its junction with the Trent at Meadow Lane Lock due to pollution.

It is estimated that 4,000 gallons of diesel has entered the waterway causing drastic pollution with the police involved.

Chained-up

The two locks are chained-up preventing navigation along the Nottingham Canal between Castle and Meadow Lane locks.

The Environment Agency together with the emergency services are attempting to deal with the pollution, but it is expected the closure will remain in force until the end of this week.
