Grounded on Severn

THE problems of cruising on rivers by people more used to the canals was further emphasized when the crew of a narrowboat managed to get grounded on the Severn near Worcester on Saturday.

It required firemen with two boats and appliances from Worcester, Droitwich and Malvern to get the crew and boat, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Rescued

The boat had been steered away from the central channel just upstream of Bevere lock in Worcester and had grounded, with the fire crews able to contact the people on the boat who were rescued, then the boat pulled off and moved to the nearby marina.

It is not know why the boat was not simply pulled off with the crew still aboard.

Once again it shows the dangers of river cruising, even the non-tidal like the Severn, where the unwary can easily be caught out.
