Boat stops train services

A HIRE boat stuck under a railway bridge over the Yare on the Broads, caused train cancellations and delays whilst engineers could assess any damage.

This happened around midday on Monday at Thorpe St Andrew, affecting train services between Norwich and Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth and Sheringham, that were either cancelled or delayed, with services resumed during the afternoon, though with delays, Allan Richards tells us.

Crew rescued

The boat Mustang was unable to move, such was the impact, and it needed people from the Broads Authority to rescue the crew, whilst the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service were called in to release of the boat from under the bridge.

The crew did not realise that the boat was unable to get under the bridge, and it is not known if the crew had been made aware of this fact by the hire company, Alphacraft, as no one from the company would comment.
