Email: Life jackets in tunnels

Published: Wednesday, 15 April 2015

Reading David Hymers' piece about the tunnel notices reminded me about when I hired from Gailey Marine last month.

They told us that we had to have life jackets as CaRT had made it compulsory to wear them in tunnels, and that only two people were allowed to be on the back deck of the boat while going through a tunnel, all other members of the crew having to remain in the cabin.

We pointed out that there was only one (extremely short—65 yards) tunnel that we were going through on the Staffs & Worcester, but they insisted, so the life jackets took up space in the wardrobe for a week!
