More spend on directors

THE Canal & River Trust (CaRT) are again advertising for a person to take over the remaining responsibilities of Simon Salem who is officially leaving in June 2015 but believed to be on gardening leave, writes Allan Richards.

Having previously advertised for an Executive Head of Marketing, Communications and Fundraising in February on £100,000 per year, the Trust has again advertised the job but this time it is for a director on £125,000.

Two replace one

In February, narrowboatworld reported that Simon Salem, who had already been stripped of his customer services responsibilities, was to be replaced by an Executive Head of Marketing, Communications and Fundraising on a Salary of up to £100k (Two replace one).

The article stated, somewhat tongue in cheek—‘It would appear that the Trust has finally addressed public concern regarding directors remuneration by getting rid of its lowest paid ‘fat cat' director. Unfortunately, in doing so it has replaced one £150k per year director with two £100k per year ‘heads'—the new permanent Head of Customer Services, Ian Rogers and a ‘soon to be appointed' Head of Marketing, Communications and Fundraising.'

Now £225,000

Well it would now appear that £150,000 per year Director Simon Salem is being replaced by a Head of Customer Services on £100,000 and a £125,000 Director of Marketing, Communications and Fundraising.

The closing day for applications for the directorship is April 1st—‘April fools' day.

One is left wondering if the ‘fools' are the public who believed the Trust would get its executive remuneration under control.
