Marina breaks ranks

THE rush to build marinas over the past ten years coupled with the downturn in boating activity has resulted in many marinas with numerous empty berths, but one marina is breaking ranks and offering cheaper mooring rates.

Though at present only applying to 30ft boats or less, Ventnor Marina on the Grand Union Canal between Stockton and Braunston are offering berths at £1,000 which is over £200 less than the cost at comparable sites.

Decent saving

Such moorings would be ideal for smaller narrowboats and cruisers, and on a 12 months contract offer a decent saving at a marina that is regarded more akin to a wildlife haven.

The berths have the advantage of being longer than the boats, meaning that it is easy access to both bow and stern, with the marina offering all services. A further advantage is that berth holders have what is called 'flexiberthing' entitling boaters to spend time at any other of Castle Marinas five inland marinas at no extra cost.

For boaters interested in saving on the costs of berths, Ventnor Marina is  holding an Open Day on Saturday 14th March from 10an until 4pm. You can even bring your boat along for a free overnight berth and test the facilities for yourself—subject to prior booking and availability.
