Large hole discovered

ENGINEERS investigating the leakage of the Worcester & Birmingham Canal in Birmingham (No opening date in sight for W&B) have now discovered its cause.

A large hole has been found in the bed of the canal, that was draining the water away and caused its closure, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Investigations continuing

The pound was emptied and the fish removed to allow investigations, that are continuing to ascertain that there are no more holes allowing water to escape.

It is known that there is a disused railway tunnel underneath the waterway, but not known if its collapse caused the leak.  There is no intimation as to when the canal will be reopened.
