Spreading the pollution?

THE pollution of the Grand Union Canal at Kibworth on the Leicester Section at the end of last year has still not  been dealt with.

The waterway is closed from Lock 18 Kibworth Top Lock t0 29 Bumblebee Lock, with the Environment Agency taking the unusual decision to de-water the pound where the pollution is at its worst, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Control

It is felt the the leaking gates are allowing the pollution to spread, so the pound between Locks 28 and 29 is being de-watered 'to help control the pollution incident'.

There is not intimation how this is to be achieved, as no matter how the water is to be drained away, it will obviously be into a water course, that will spread the pollution.

Winding is either North at Kilby Bridge or South at Saddington Tunnel.
