Lancaster Canal development

The Canal & River Trust, together with Bloc are undertaking waterside development by the Lancaster Canal in the city.

The historic wharf known as Aldcliffe Yard, situated in a city centre conservation area will be turned into a housing estate with 14 homes being built on the site, including extensive three and four bedroomed houses, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Re-invested

The development is expected to be completed by July of next year, and we are told that 'part of the profits from the investment will be re-invested in the canal network for public benefit'.

Some of the houses will be converted from the original stone buildings of the wharf, with a token to its past being a small crane being left in a back garden.
