Huddersfield Narrow floods

IT SEEMS that lack of regular maintenance has caused severe flooding on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, with the canal unnavigable and towpaths covered in water.

The build-up of debris at the weir at Linthwaite, that had not been cleared, has caused the water to back-up after the rain, and having nowhere to go it poured over fields and footpaths, but luckily no dwellings were flooded.

Emergency repairs

We are told that 'engineers carried out emergency repairs', which means they cleared all the debris from the weir that a boater told us had been building up for weeks.

The debris has now been cleared and today (Wednesday) water levels should be back to normal, with 'leaves' being blamed.
