Another attempt to grab river bank

Published: Saturday, 27 September 2014

THE boaters that attempted to grab the land at Castle Mill Stream in Jericho in Oxford have now set their sights on part of the Thames river bank in the city.

The boaters claim that the river bank is unregistered and therefore can be used by them to establish permanent moorings.

A community

Local residents have been given leaflets stating the boaters intention to set up a community on the bank, and have roped-off a large area and painted in yellow the area they intend to claim.

These are understood to be the same boaters who were thwarted with their attempt to claim the banks of Castle Mill Stream, so are attempting another land grab.

Issues

The issues are the debris they bring with them, erecting all manner of things by their boats and leaving items strewn along the bank.

One of the ropes has a notice stating the land was being claimed by the Communities Land Organisation for the benefit of boat users, with measured plots along the bank.
