A NARROWBOAT stolen from moorings on Zouch Cut on the Soar was later discovered trapped on Kegworth Deep Lock weir.

It is thought that the thieves were unaware of the force of the river, and the boat would have been carried on the flowing stream until it hit the weir at Kegworth, Rob McLean of the Boat Safety Scheme tells us.

It needed the fire service and a special water rescue team to reach the trapped boat that was caught on the weir to ascertain that no one was on board. The crew used an inflatable fastened to a nearby tree to reach the boat.

It was discovered to be empty.
