Trent & Mersey towpath slip
Published: Wednesday, 05 March 2014
PART of the towpath and moorings below Barton Turn Lock at Bridge 38 have slipped into the Trent & Mersey Canal, together with the towpath, Ralph Freeman tells us.
This has resulted in a large quantity of debris into the channel about 6ft out from the bank, that has caused an underwater hazard along with damage to the towpath. Canal & River Trust workers are attempting to remove as much of the debris as possible.
Still open
However navigation is still open, but boaters are advised to steer well away from the towpath side when passing the area.
As can be seen from the photograph by Peter Ashford, the area is now fenced-off.
