Have a business to run

ONE can't help, but feel sorry for Paul Lillie (Pillings' Managing Director) writes John Kelly.

There he is struggling to pay the £39K a year he contractually agreed to pay to BW whilst at the same time '... most marina managers at BWML are paid £30k a year more than he pays himself'.

True or not

He states that 'A BWML marina manager doesn't need to be paid £89k a year...'. I don't know if that is true or not, but it tells us that Mr Lillie pays himself £59k a year (twice the national average pay) my heart bleeds for him.

Rather than worry about how much other people are paid he would have been better off paying himself less and honouring his debts. He would still then have a business to run rather than having to go into liquidation.

Caught in the middle

What really annoyed me about his statement though was the fact that he says if he can reach a new agreement with CaRT he has '...funds waiting to start paying them'. Presumably he also owes money to other businesses, who will now lose out whilst he '...has funds...'. Mr Lillie is not deserving of any sympathy, he has overpaid himself whilst refusing to pay money he owes and now, because of his actions, people caught in the middle (boaters and other businesses) will suffer.
