Bank Dole Cut now open

THE long awaited work to re-open Lock 5 on Bank Dole Cut had been completed.

The navigation is now open, Keith Gudgin reports.

It was in early February that Lock 5 on the navigation was closed due to debris and silt piled-up against the lock preventing its use.

To be cleared in March

It was on the 4th March that this was to be cleared and the navigation re-opened by the 15th March.

But alas this did not happen, though no reason was given, but it was all cleared yesterday, Thursday the 4th April and we are told that 'dredging works at Beal Lock are now complete, therefore Bank Dole can now be operational'.
