IT WAS two vehicles crashing on a narrow bridge that closed the Staffs & Worcs Canal.

They knocking  parts of its parapet and wall into the waterway and closing it since the 23rd December, Keith Gudgin reports.

This was the bridge between Dimmingsdale Lock (28) and Wightwick Lock (29) above Bratch, when two vehicles took to the narrow bridge in opposite directions at the same time and crashed, knocking a great deal of masonry into the waterway.

The debris has now all been cleared and the navigation was reopened today, Friday.

Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation

Swinton Lock on the Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation failed yesterday, Thursday.

It suffered  sluice failures with a fault on both downstream sluices, closing the waterway.

We are informed that engineers are investigating the failure today, and it is expected that more information will be forthcoming in the near future.

Shropshire Union Canal

Another canal closed due to a vehicle.

This time on the Shropshire Union, with the vehicle in the waterway between bridges Nixon's Bridge (114) and Faulkners Bridge 116 on the Shropshire Union Canal, explained as—'due to a vehicle within the navigation'.

Today the trust is currently liaising with those involved to secure the removal of the vehicle, but no time can be given at present.
