Massive Nene bridge works ignores river traffic

A MASSIVE £5m repair to a road bridge over the Nene at Peterborough makes no mention of its effect on the navigation.

The work is expected to take 18 months with the road on the bridge that carries the A1139 Frank Perkins Parkway over the Nene being regularly closed during the work, but there is no intimation of the effect it will have on the navigation, Alan Tilbury reports.

The bridge requires its bearings to be replaced and it is understood there will be structures in the river to facilitate this work, as the information given states 'the majority of work will be carried out under the bridge to the supporting piers' that could prevent navigation, but no notice has been issued, though work will start shortly.

All we are told is that the bridge will be jacked up, presumably from the bed of the river, that of course will seriously affect navigation.
