THE boat that sank in the Ashby Canal on the 3rd February, partly blocking the waterway, (Left abandoned in Ashby Canal) has now been removed.
It was on the 3rd of February that the derelict narrowboat was left in the middle of the waterway by Bulkington Road Bridge (5), causing problems for deep draughted boat attempting to pass by its side, Keith Gudgin tells us.
Eventually traced
The owner was eventually traced by Canal & River Trust, and was instructed to remove it, but it is not known if the owner did or if it was left to the Trust to eventually move it.
It is thought the boat took on water, and its owner simply left it by the bank, unsecured, from where it drifted into the middle of the canal, causing the obstruction.
