While the article 'Stay Put' makes some very good points it ignores the fact that not all boaters can plan their journeys such that are able to wait for improvement in the weather.
Hire boat users and share boat users are normally on time bounded trips, and with all the planning in the world cannot allow for very adverse weather.
That being said in 35 years as a hirer and sharer I have only once carried on in weather when, had I been able, I would have waited. Even in severe winds due allowance can normally be made to avoid problems with other craft although sometimes hours of crabbing along can be extremely tiring and best avoided if at all possible.
