THE restriction on boats entering the Liverpool Link at the western end of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal has been lifted to allow up to six a day each way.

Every day that is except Tuesdays, which will give the chance for more boats to explore the many docks in Liverpool to and from Salthouse Dock.

Starts in March

The new procedure replaces the old system that only allowed separate 'in' and 'out' days, severely restricting the number of boats.  the new system comes into force with the new season on the 21st March.

This gives an advantage  whereby boaters can now cruise straight to the end of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal at the Eldonian Village without needing to book a passage from Aintree.

There are 45 visitor berths available in Salthouse Dock for boaters to be able to enjoy their visits to the city. Visits that can include visitor attractions such as the World Museum, Maritime Museum, the free guided tour around the excavated 300 year old Pier Head docks, and a trip on the Mersey Ferry over to Birkenhead or even a train to Chester.
