THE damaged bank and towpath above Caen Hill Flight at Devices will take a month to repair, with the flight closed for the entire period.
It was believed to be vandals that released water that caused the damage that resulted in both the waterway and towpath being closed, and now Canal & River Trust need four weeks to repair the damage, Keith Gudgin tells us.
Sufficient repair
It states that it 'is hoping' to repair the bank sufficiently to enable the canal to be reopened in four weeks time'.
The problem was that after the initial damage, the bank and towpath deteriorated further, and it was then CaRT took the decision to close the waterway between locks 48 and 49 which has been extended to locks 29 and 50 to include the Caen Hill Flight.
