Narrowboat arson attack

A NARROWBOAT has been destroyed in a suspected arson attack at Wednesfield on the Wyrley & Essington Canal.

The boat was moored for the winter on the waterway, with fire fighters called just after midnight on Monday with it then well alight, a local seeing the blaze from his bedroom window, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Through back garden

The fire fighters were unable to get to the boat, but went through a back garden to reach the blaze, with a hose being used to douse the flames.

Fire crews were on the scene for two hours, but could do little to save the narrowboat which was totally destroyed, though still afloat, and believed the fire was started deliberately.
