Two drownings

IT WAS the early morning barking of a dog that alerted boaters at Saul Junction that something was amiss, and they discovered the body of another boater by his boat.

It was a 4am that the body of a well known boater was recovered from the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal, Peter Ponting tells us.

Another drowning

The body of a man who left a Christmas Party in Stoke was discovered in the Trent & Mersey Canal after he failed to return home, after leaving a bar at 1.30am.

James Brindley's body was discovered in the water after searchers found his coat and wallet on the towpath of the canal, and his body was retrieved.

Both deaths are being treated as unexplained.
