Redress the negative comments

TO REDRESS the negative comments a bit, referring to volunteers on the waterways, writes Chris Love.

We have been down the Staffs & Worcester to Stourport, then Worcester, bit of a retrace of steps to Droitwich then up towards Birmingham on Worcester & Birmingham over the past week, with eight volunteers spotted all very helpful or just working away litter picking on the canal; good on them.

Reeds trimmed

Also would like to give a big thumbs-up to Droitwich and in particular the Barge Canal where the reeds have been trimmed to improve things immeasurably.

Moving on up from Hanbury to Alvechurch over the past three days no more volunteers spotted but a group of five contractors grass cutting on the Worcester & Birmingham (also saw another group just about a week ago on the Staffs & Worcs at Caunsall). We seem to have been followed or following them for days. They all appear to be doing a good job but with such a massive task it looks like a job for life.

The group I spoke to said that they had been deployed to cover the Worcester & Birmingham, Droitwich & Gloucester & Sharpness (some very big grassy bits there) plenty of work for five there. But as a famous supermarket says every little helps!
