CaRT—third most complaints

Published: Saturday, 21 June 2014

THE Canal & River Trust (CaRT) is the third most complained about charity in the country, according to the Charity Commission, writes Allan Richards.

In the 12 months up to 31 March 2014 the Charity Commission has acted upon four complaints against the Trust.

Higher than other charities

Although, the number of complaints opened is less the Royal British Legion (5) and RSPCA (6), it is still higher than more than 150,000 other charities in the country for the period of 2013 to 2014.

The number of complaints refers to those only those followed up and does not include those that are rejected because they are immediately deemed to fall outside the remit of the Commission.

No information is yet available regarding these complaints. As such it is not known if if the Charity Commissioner considers CaRT has acted wrongly or contrary to its charitable purpose in any of the four cases.
