No date yet on Shroppie culvert repair

TODAY Canal & River Trust engineers are using high pressure jets to clear the fallen debris from the collapsed culvert on the Shropshire Union Canal, but cannot give a reopening date until there is a plan for repair.

The failed culvert, just before the National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port (Shropshire Union Failure) is receiving attention, and once it is cleared it will be inspected for damage by the use of CCTV camera.

Best method of repair

This will determine the overall condition of the culvert through its entire length which will enable the contractors to ascertain the best method of repair.

The two fabric dams have been installed and a length over the culvert dewatered to allow access, but no definite date for completion is possible until the damage and its needed repair is ascertained.

As previously reported the whole length of the waterway from Chester is closed to prevent water loss.
